The Mygnskerö Unleashed!

Out latest set of paper minis - The Attack of the Mygnskerö - three fearsome Fungoid invaders, alongside three craft working defenders, hand-drawn in old school black and white is out now.

I've always wanted to do something similar to the Citadel box sets like Runequest Box 3 -Attack of the Broo and LW1 Lone Wolf - Giak Attack. Aside from the nostalgia (the set cover, photo above, is loosely inspired by John Blanches Citadel D&D box covers / poster from White Dwarf 67), it is a nice way to do a small number of characters with different design themes, suitable for a mini skirmish game, or a small diorama all together in a neat little package.

The theme itself is perhaps a little more up-to-date, with the soulless, semi-sentient fungal automata threatening the lives of creative, crafts people - a fantasy drawn from a current cultural conflict - Vlatkrig as technique, an approach to the world. As ever the figures have been drawn with the authentic Old School materials - Staedtler Noris HB Pencil, vintage Helix Shatterproof ruler, Black Berol Handwriting pen and trusty, soon to be extinct WH Smith A4 5mm gridded paper - the same materials I used when I first got into fantasy gaming in the mid 1980s in Junior School, more than a spectacle of image, truth to materials and embodying a physical connection and continuity with the past.

The Myngskerö

The remnants of a long dead, idiot wizards failed experiments with fungoid automata run wild. A self replicating, constructed fungal infection set loose to kill, break down and decompose all organic matter into a great grey mulch - The Slôp. Rudimentary recursive magical algorithms feed from the creatures absorbed, crudely imitating the making and use weapons of war to advance the Myngskerö's omnicidal program.

Mygnskerö Saeþ - a lesser Myngskerö archer.

Mygnskerö Boras - the giant dual axe welding berserker.

Mygnskerö Karch - a fearsome clawed spear weilder.

The Kræftvölk

Defending their homes and lives are three craft workers, low-level adventurers just starting out on their first adventuring career, bravely turning their tools of trade into weapons against the soul-less fungoid automatons.

Dyne Gwiadôr - a Khoyþella of the Gáldaethra, armed with sword and bolas.

Dyne a weaver, skilled in the use of a loom, using a weaving sword and a loom weight as a bolas.

Gravt Brotshyre - a Gnörven Kaaþen, armed with mallet and chisel.

Gravt using his wooden mallet & chisel. A practitioner of the art of Kaaþ - carving figures into living trees and the subsequent care and renewal of them, an ancient craft somewhere between carpentry, graffiti, tree-surgery and architecture.

Yrk Birkstayne - a Köbling Dröeyþ, a feral hedge-alchemist.

Yrk, gatherer of rare mosses, sacred herbs, waeps-speaker. Maker of strange potions that may heal or induce madness, dye cloth unusual colours, and produce ink for writing arcane lore.  Holding an Isenwaep Gall, and silver pruning sickle.

An Isenwaeps

Friends to Hedge-Alchemists who have learned to treat them with kindness and respect, the Isenwaep life cycle produces Galls, a rare and valuable constituent, that once hatched out of, can be gathered and used.

The Kræftvölk Terrain

Also included in this set are 7 pieces of themed scatter terrain - including mushroom outcrops and craft equipment from the world of Vlätkrig.

Kynelrook - Gnörven carved treestump.

Kalrat - a Dröeyþ workbench for mixing potions.

Wyrkandlomá - a weighted loom for weaving Gáldaethraja cloth.

4x Schrûmgroves - outcroppings of various fungi.
